Sophon Susena, a photographer with Nation Photo, won the runner-up prize in the "Power of News, Power of Truth" photo contest held for World Press Freedom Day 2026 by the Thai Journalists Association and the Online News Producers Association in Bangkok. His winning photo, "Each to their own duty", shows journalists and security staff at work during the Phra Pradaeng Songkran festival.
At the event, media organisations issued a five-point statement calling for protection of press freedom and fair revenue sharing between news producers and digital platforms. Sophon said that the heart of a news photo is the truth, which technology cannot replace.
